The Hippocratic Cancer Research Foundation Eighth Annual Gala at Navy Pier Raises Over $1.1 Million for Cancer Research

Chicago, IL — The Hippocratic Cancer Research Foundation’s 8th Annual Gala at Navy Pier, which took place on November 11th, 2023, within the illustrious Aon Ballroom, illuminated the night as an extraordinary occasion of philanthropy, elegance, and continued hope. The event drew notable figures, including Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias, President of Cook County Board of Commissioners Toni Preckwinkle of Chicago, Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas, Water Reclamation Commissioner Maryiana Spyropoulos, many global politicians and influential business entrepreneurs along with 900 other distinguished guests who generously contributed and supported to the achievement of a momentous fundraising milestone.

 

The Gala stood as a compelling testament to the unwavering dedication of the benefactors and its organizer, curated by DC Baldwin Productions who perfected the elegance and purpose of the foundation’s mission. Spearheading the event, renowned designer Peter Dundas and Evangelo Bousis admirably served as the co-chair couple with the aim of reminding us why we persist in the fight against cancer during this rise of rates in our youth. With Lou Canellis, of  FOX 32 News, taking the reins as the Master of Ceremonies, and the enchanting actress and model Dree Hemingway as special presenter, the Gala was a star-studded affair. The event also featured the American Legion Color Guard, performing a deeply moving tribute to Veterans Day, which fortuitously coincided with the date of the Gala. Adding a touch to honor the occasion, Marianna Betondo delivered a heartfelt vocal performance of our national anthem.

HCRF Founder Mrs. Eleni Bousis and Director Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University, Dr. Leonidas Platanias, Dr. Nicole Liadis, and Danielle Samoylovich warmly invited all those in attendance to believe in the power of imagination and emphasized the profound significance of cancer research. Reaffirming the importance of research and the power of unity in the pursuit of a cancer-free world.

 

The night's entertainment reached its pinnacle with a mesmerizing performance by Akis Kalmoukis, a tenor opera singer from Europe, whose resounding and angelic voice gave us wings to soar and left an indelible mark on all who were in attendance. Guests danced the night away with Sway Chicago and  DJ John Gramatis.
