A Sweet Success: Our October Sourdough Baking Event Raises Over $2,000 for Cancer Research!
October 16, 2024
This October, we experienced an incredible evening filled with creativity, community, and the rewarding art of sourdough baking—all for an important cause. Thanks to the generosity and enthusiasm of our supporters, the Hippocratic Cancer Research Foundation’s baking event, in partnership with Kanela Breakfast Club and the amazing Kinda Arzon!
The night began with a warm welcome to our guests, who gathered not only to learn the delicate craft of sourdough bread-making, but also to support cancer research and raise awareness for the importance of health and wellness. Kinda Arzon, the renowned photographer and passionate home baker, led the group through an immersive experience that was equal parts educational and inspiring.
Through her expert guidance, guests learned how to create their own sourdough starter from scratch—an ancient technique that’s as rewarding as it is delicious.
Participants enjoyed a live demonstration where Kinda showed them how to nurture their starter, as well as how to properly stretch, fold, shape, and score the dough for the perfect loaf. The evening also explored the health benefits of sourdough, the fascinating history of this timeless bread, and its connection to the Blue Zones, regions around the world where people live longer, healthier lives.
In addition to learning new skills, guests also left the event with a mason jar of sourdough starter—a gift that will help them continue their baking journey at home. The knowledge and resources provided will empower attendees to bake their own loaves, keeping the spirit of the event alive long after the evening ended.
What made this event truly special, however, was the collective spirit of generosity and support. By the end of the night, we had raised over $2,000 for the Hippocratic Cancer Research Foundation, funds that will go directly toward advancing cancer research and supporting health initiatives. It was an evening of connection, learning, and giving back—showing just how powerful a community can be when it comes together for a meaningful cause.
Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make this event a success. We couldn’t have done it without you! Together, we’re not only learning the ancient craft of sourdough baking but also taking steps toward a healthier, cancer-free future.
We can’t wait for our next event, and we hope to see you there!
